Jeffrey McDevitt, MA TESOL
Jeffrey McDevitt has been an instructor in the English Foundation Unit at Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) since 2010.
In addition, he is the Accreditation Coordinator for the Foundation Program Unit at GUST, where he has recently procured the department accreditation through the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation. He is a member of various performance groups in Kuwait and TESOL International and looks forward to all that is possible in the future for TESOL Kuwait. President@tesolkuwait.org
Claire Hamilton, MSc Applied Linguistics
Claire Hamilton is the Head of the Department of Foundation Studies and Chair of Faculty Development and Research at Box Hill College, the sole provider of private female-only education in Kuwait. She has over 20 years' experience of EFL/EAP teaching and administration in schools, higher education and private institutions and has worked in Europe, the USA, Asia and the Middle East. She has a Masters in Applied Linguistics from the University of Edinburgh and is a doctoral candidate in Higher Education Leadership at the University of Liverpool. Ilene Winokur, MA
INTEREST SECTIONS CO-CHAIR, CONFERENCE LIAISON
Ilene Winokur has lived in Kuwait for 30 years and is currently the Managing Director of Specialized Solutions, an educational consulting firm based in Kuwait. She has taught at elementary and college levels in private institutions since 1995, and was an administrator for 10 years. Her academic interests are leadership practice, transfer of training, and continuing professional development (CPD).
Ilene holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Lehigh University and an MBA from the University of Miami, Florida. She also completed ESL certification at the College of New Jersey, and a BA in History from State University at Buffalo, New York. She is currently the co-chair of the TESOL Kuwait’s Interest Section -Teacher Development and founder of Specialized Solutions. TeacherdevelopmentIS@tesolkuwait.org
Moli Diva, MA
Moli Diva is a Deputy Head of the English Department at the Australian College of Kuwait. She holds a Masters in English Language and Literature and a specialization in Education and Teaching English as a Second Language from Canada. She has taught in India, Canada and the Middle East. She has presented at various conferences in and around the region. Moli is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society and is currently a Doctoral student. Her research interests are teacher welfare and innovative teaching.
Reena Mathew, MS TESOL
Reena Mathew is currently an Intensive English Program instructor at the American University of Kuwait. She has been teaching ESL students for 6 years. Reena holds an MS degree in TESOL and a BS degree in Biology. She is excited about being part of TESOL Kuwait’s executive board and is currently responsible for advertising TESOL Kuwait events. Yvonne Johnson, MA TESOL
Yvonne has over 25 years' experience as an ESL specialist teacher, teacher trainer and administrator. She has taught students of all ages and numerous nationalities in Japan, her home country New Zealand, Qatar, and Kuwait and is passionate about TESOL. Yvonne previously held positions as Dean and Director of a language school and college in New Zealand, as ESL Coordinator in two British International schools, and Instructor/Teacher Development coordinator in American system university intensive English programs. She is currently Interim Director of the Foundation Program at Gulf University for Science and Technology.
Mirna Safi DBA (Doctorate in Business Administration), TD English Literature
Dr. Mirna Safi has extensive experience as an ESL teacher, management and HR professor, marketing and academic researcher, and trainer. Earlier, studying and obtaining her degrees from different countries such as Lebanon, Germany, and France broadened her communication and training skills. She has worked in several universities in Kuwait and Lebanon. Dr. Safi has held several administrative, academic duties in academia. She also has several academic publications in peer reviewed journals and has participated in various conferences. She is a co-author for the book Producing New Knowledge on Entrepreneurship, which was published and released in France in 2013. She is now the Membership chair for TESOL Kuwait.
Susan Hamade, MA Education
Susan Hamade is the Deputy Head of Curriculum and Testing in the English Department at the Australian College of Kuwait. Just recently, her efforts in devising and implementing a new curriculum received recognition by three accrediting bodies in Australia. Susan is an academic reviewer for the Journal on Excellence in College Teaching and has presented her research studies as well as hands on workshops at a number of conferences in the region.
